Its been a couple years since on DH - a lot has changed in Vtiger and PHP since match 2007 - at the the time it was 5.03rcX running on I think php 5.1. Where exactly is the install failing? As a side note, this vtiger code is exactly where my sys admin career took a turn for the serious - that and frustrations with DH - eventually led to my managing my own servers/VPS and now as a sys admin full time developing more code and sys admin skills. Don't miss the TV too much, learning and tinkering with code is more exciting... Thanks.
