I wrote a recent article about backups - but what about backing up the software CD’s we pay so much for - between XP, Office, Nero and McAfee, it would cost $400+ to replace the SW - and in a pinch I’d buy it again.
After wrecking my photoshop LE CD (I put tape on it - and a year later peeled off the tape and the silver data layer along with it), back-ups were needed of my valuable software disks also.
Thankfully this was easier than I imagined - Isorecorder, you can get it here
To copy the iso (image) of a CD to hard disk:
My Computer -> right click on D/E/drive with the disk -> Create image from CD
To burn it to a blank CDRW:
Right click on ISO file -> Copy Image to CD
Thats it. I have a directory with ISO’s of most SW, so my backups have the OS, my data and the SW for an install if disaster ever strikes.
One more note - save a copy of license codes for all your SW - via email or as a txt file in case the paper copy is lost - as I learned the hard way with a copy of Autosketch - $108, no license, so I cannot re-install. I now have many copies saved in different places.
